About the Project
From basic production home kitchen to contemporary mission inspired style, this transformation brought functionality and childhood memories to fruition.
Design Inspiration Insights
We needed a starting point for my client’s design so I asked her what part of her house inspired her most. She simply said it was a chair in her dining room chair…she loved the simplicity in design, richness in color and the mission style that she felt very connected to from her childhood home…
Your client's kitchen underwent quite a transformation.
Tell us about it.
The project went from redesigning a production home kitchen to making the kitchen look more like Stickley furniture or in other words with the suggestive style of mission. We also had some challenges with storage and function. The dishwasher never felt like it was on the correct side when she loaded it, the range had bulky downdraft under it and there was a lot of dead space in the corners.
What led you to propose such dramatic change?
We created two beautiful hutch areas with in the space to show her glass ware and dishes. We added glass and mullions to doors. We also incorporated spice pull outs, tray dividers and roll out shelves for storage. The bi-fold lift doors over her desk kept provided storage and maintained the furniture look she desired.
What are some of the functional storage solutions you chose?
We added spice and trash pull-outs, bi-fold corner and try dividers to make the space as functional for the Kapers’ as possible. We will always create a beautiful kitchen you, but, function is what you will remember!
Can you share some of the specific styles and finishes you used?
Knotty Alder in a chestnut finish provided a warm wood that lent itself to the mission style we were going for.
