About The Project
What was your client's inspiration for the dramatic change in the kitchen?
The client is a professional chef, so mostly he wanted a kitchen large enough to hold his large restaurant-grade appliances. In addition, they needed enough storage for their cookware and dishes as well as plenty of countertop space for the prep work and entertaining.
Your client's kitchen underwent a quite transformation. Tell us about it.
The wall separating the kitchen from the family room was removed. The old kitchen space was turned into a wet bar and the new kitchen as moved into the adjacent family room. A large corner walk in pantry was worked into the design and is charmed by the old 1940’s entry door found by the clients. The 48″ range and hood becomes a focal point and the contrasting island provides ample storage and countertop space for prepping and serving food. A support post was needed at the island, but was worked seamlessly into the design.
What are some of the functional storage solutions you chose?
We focused on ease-of-use and convenience, so we used lots of drawers which are versatile and can be used for storing mixing bowls, casserole dishes, tupperware, etc. We incorporated a trash pullout with 2 bins, 1 for everyday trash and 1 for recyclables. We also used vertical storage for plans and cutting boards, a blind corner pullout, and roll-out trays in the pantry. The microwave drawer is located in the island which makes it slightly hidden from view while still being accessible.
Can you share some of the specific styles and finishes you used?
For the perimeter, we used a natural rustic maple which ages beautifully over time and has lots of character and interest. We contrasted that with a dark french roast stain on cherry in the island. Quartz contertops make for a sturdy and nearly maintenance-free surface to work on and range and hood give the kitchen a wonderful focal point. The arabesque tile backsplash offers and elegant touch to the space.
