White kitchens are beautiful and stylish. White cabinets, countertops, and backsplashes instantly open up the space, making it seem brighter and more inviting. This modern design trend is likely to stay in style for quite a few years to come. Follow these quick tips to keep your white kitchen looking sparkling clean.
Use the exhaust fan.
Every time you use your stovetop, the aroma given off by cooking food is comprised of microscopic particles of grease and food. What goes up must go down, and when these particles land, they’ll probably land on your white cabinets. Don’t give them that chance. Turn on your exhaust fan or range hood as soon as you start cooking.
Wipe down your cabinets regularly.
Even if you do use your exhaust fan, your white cabinets will need to be cleaned regularly. There’s no need to use harsh chemicals. And in fact, aggressive chemical cleaners can sometimes make white cabinets look streaky. Instead, mix your own cabinet cleaner. Add the following to a clean spray bottle:
- 1 tbsp. baking soda
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 cup distilled white vinegar
Add the ingredients while holding the spray bottle over your sink, just in case the fizzy mixture bubbles over. This cleaning solution can handle most messes, but for grease stains, you’ll need dish soap. Use dish soap with grease-busting properties. Mix a little in some warm water and wipe down the cabinets with it.
Brighten up white sinks.
White sinks are an aesthetically pleasing alternative to stainless steel, but they require a bit more upkeep to keep them looking sparkling clean. If yours shows stains, apply some lemon juice and let it soak into the stain. For stubborn stains, lay some paper towels on the sink, and add bleach with a spray bottle. The paper towels will hold the bleach in place while it lifts the stains.
