Cooking is an art, and it’s best done in a kitchen designed to inspire. If yours is feeling outdated or dull, it’s time to start planning a kitchen renovation. There are lots of creative ways you can bring cheerful colors into your modern kitchen.
Modern Kitchen Cabinets
Kitchen cabinets are often the focal point of renovation projects. If yours are still in decent shape, you could consider getting them refaced instead of completely replaced. First, you’ll need to decide whether to use your cabinets to bring bright colors into your kitchen, or to use them as a backdrop for accent colors elsewhere. For instance, you could go bold with bright yellow or dark red cabinets. If you do, consider installing white or off-white upper cabinets so that the colorful lower cabinets aren’t overwhelming. Or, you could go with the classic look of rich wood, and add brighter accent colors elsewhere.
Cheerful Upholstery
Upholstery isn’t found in every kitchen, and so it’s always eye-catching when it’s there. Choose cheerful upholstery for the seats of bar stools or the bench in a breakfast nook. Don’t be afraid to choose patterns instead of uniform colors.
Colorful Backsplashes
White subway tiles will always be a classic, but they can also get a little boring. If you have mixed feelings about your white subway tiles, consider keeping most of them, but adding a decorative mosaic to the backsplash above your stove. This design scheme works well if you’ve also chosen brightly colored cabinets. If you’ve got darker, traditional cabinets, consider choosing a bolder backsplash that includes accent tiles in shades of red or yellow.
Retro Appliances
Retro appliances are a major trend right now, and they’re an easy way to improve both the look and function of your kitchen. These days, you can find stoves, fridges, dishwashers, and even microwaves in shades of cherry red, burnt orange, buttercup yellow, and baby blue.
